Do You Love Using Your Shower Pouf? It Is The Grossest Thing In The Bathroom

There are certain things that we may use in our home on a day-to-day basis and we don’t typically give them much thought. Some of them may even be used to clean our bodies, such as the shower pouf. It seems like such a convenient item and we use soap on it regularly, so what could possibly go wrong?

According to a study in the Journal of Clinical Microbiology, the pouf may look harmless, but it is actually the most disgusting thing that you could possibly have in the bathroom. Inside of the mesh, you will find many different types of bacteria that love the warm, moist environment.

The problem is, they not only spread quickly, they multiply immediately.

Along with the disgusting bacteria that we may find in the shower pouf, we will also find plenty of dead skin cells in the folds of the netting. Every time you have a shower, you are re-spreading the bacteria and dead skin cells all over your body.

According to J Matthew Knight, who works at the night dermatology Institute, yeast and mold are also a problem in the pouf. Think about that the next time you use one to “clean” yourself.

Not only is the shower pouf a disgusting germ factory, it is also potentially dangerous. If you rub one over freshly shaved skin, the bacteria may enter the body and lead to an infection. That is why 98% of dermatologist avoid using a loofah or shower poof altogether.

If you still plan on using the shower pouf, even though it is nastier than a toilet bowl, you should store it in a dry area after use. You should also replace it every 2 or 3 weeks. How old is your shower pouf?
