Make Your Own DIY Flower Tower

There are times when something beautiful will come out of wanting to give the perfect gift. That was the case when this man and his boys decided they wanted to give the perfect gift of springtime flowers to the women in their lives. What they created was 6 flower towers that were not only bursting with color, they were quite simple to care for.

If you would like to give this gift as well, either to someone else or to yourself, you should gather the necessary “ingredients” in advance. Those materials would include a large flower pot, wire fencing, drain tile, plastic ties, brown tarp, rocks, potting soil and some flowers.

Of course, you could choose any springtime flowers you want but for this project, he chose red, white and blue petunias.

1

Seal one end of the drain tile with duct tape and insert it into the pot. Anchor the tube with a few inches of rock. This will not only hold it in place, it will also provide the proper drainage.

Bend the fencing into a circle and insert it into the pot with the tile. The drain tile will become the self watering mechanism of the tower.

2

Wrap tarp on the inside of the fence and fill it with soil. The tarp should be anchored in place at the top of the fence with plastic ties.

Plant your choice of flowers at random along the outside of the tower. Cut small upside-down “T” shapes for each area where you plant.

Make sure you also puncture the drain tile at each of the planting locations. Doing so will allow the water to seep out to each individual plant.

3

Now that you have the flowers “planted,” you can water the tower through the top of the drain every few days. You will be amazed with how well your flowers will bloom and they will absolutely cover the tower!

They type of vertical gardening is not only beautiful, it is also practical. You can use even the smallest of spaces to grow practically anything, including a herb garden!
