7 Human Habits That Really Annoy Your Dog

Dogs are some of the most faithful animals on the face of the planet and any dog owner will be able to tell you that they are wonderful to have around. Not only will they stick with you through good times and bad, they will also protect you when it becomes necessary to do so.

We can all get behind the fact that dogs are wonderful, and that makes it difficult for us to not show certain types of behavior. You might be surprised to learn that some of the more common things that humans do with dogs are actually quite annoying to them! Here are 7 things that your dog would like you to avoid.

Yes, Your Dog Loves You

1a

Your dog is already aware that they are part of your family. They show you unconditional love but that doesn’t mean you can’t get under their skin from time to time.

Think of your relationship with your dog as being like any other type of close relationship. There is always room for forgiveness but a few bad habits can certainly be annoying.

1: Hugging Too Hard

1

It is natural for humans to want to cuddle with those that they are close to but according to a recent poll, 82% of dogs are being hugged too tightly in photographs.

I’m not saying that your dog doesn’t want you to hug her, I’m just saying that you shouldn’t get carried away.

2. Language Barrier

2

Most people consider “using your words” to be a good thing but when it comes to your dog, it often leaves them wondering what you are saying.

A dog appreciates hearing a soothing voice but when you offer praise and it comes out as just words, you is really missing the mark. Be sure to use the proper tone when speaking to your animal and they will get what you’re saying.

3. Rushing through Your Day

3

Admittedly, there are times when it can be annoying to take a dog for a walk but it is something that they need regularly and something you need to do. When you are having such a difficult day, try to keep your dog out of the loop.

The daily walk is an adventure for your dog and they look forward to it. Give her a moment to take a sniff at interesting areas and it will help to keep her happy.

4: Living in Your Head

4

Dogs love being around humans but when you focus on your own life too much, your dog may become lonely and could get bored. In turn, this could lead to bad habits.

Although there will be times when you need your space, don’t ignore a dog that is begging you to play. Take a moment to throw the ball and make her happy.

5: No Space

5

You may think of your dog as being your little baby, but don’t get carried away. Doting on your doggie may be nice at times, but try not to pick her up too frequently.

Dogs appreciate a level of independence and they like running around on the ground. If you end up holding the dog all of the time, they will grow dependent on you or they could even get cranky!

6: Teasing

6

Do you enjoy being teased? I didn’t think so. The next time you think about teasing your dog, consider how it makes you feel.

It is important for a dog to win the battle from time to time, whether you’re talking about a tug-of-war or having them reach for a treat.

7: Play Dates

7

Dogs are social animals, and it is possible for them to have friends. If your dog enjoys being around another dog, they will play happily together but if they are not interested, they may just want different company.

Let your dog make the decision in this regard. If they don’t seem interested in what the visiting dog has to offer, maybe it’s time to move on to another friendship.
