There’s an old saying that “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure,” and once you see this DIY project, you will know it’s absolutely true.
After all, a woman found an old door on the side of the road that had been discarded but she took it home and made it into something that is of epic proportions.
When most people would see an old door such as this, they wouldn’t think that much of it but she saw the potential.
In fact, she said she had envisioned what she would do with it right away because it was a solid piece of wood and she was about to transform it into a new headboard that was perfect for her master bedroom.
The first thing she did was to clean up the door before she got it anywhere near her bed.
“Besides being filthy, it had two coats of paint on it that was chipped and ugly. I decided to strip the door down to bare wood. I felt like just cleaning it up and painting over it wouldn’t give me the look I wanted.”
She removed the old knocker and doorknob and started stripping the paint.
She had to sand the entire door to prepare it for painting.
A piece of crown molding was attached to the side of the door to finish off the look.
After the crown molding was added, the entire piece was painted white and it was distressed to add some style.
A French cleat was used as a wall mount for the frame.
The door was slid into place on the cleat. It wasn’t necessary to cover the hole made by the doorknob, the mattress would cover it.
After the frame was on the wall, the bed was slid back into place.
“After a decade of living without a headboard, we finally have a headboard I adore, and I am so proud in making part of our home.”
