Our pillow is our constant companion when we are sleeping at night and many of us get quite attached to them when we find just the right pillow for our needs. The unfortunate issue is, the pillow can tend to yellow over the course of time and it is quite difficult to get rid of the stains.
One of the options to limit the stains is to use a hypoallergenic pillow, but you might still have some difficulties when it comes to standard washing. Even after you wash them thoroughly, you may still end up with some stains. Yes, you know that the pillows are clean because they just came out of the wash but the fact that they are yellow can be quite annoying and just a little bit gross.
Fortunately, there is a method that can leave your pillows looking fresh and white. It might even make those old pillows look like new again!
You will need to gather your supplies together in preparation for this cleaning technique.
1 cup of laundry detergent
1 cup powdered dishwasher detergent
1 cup bleach (you could try “A Natural Bleach Alternative“ if you
are opposed to chlorine bleach)
1/2 cup borax
One of the most important considerations for cleaning your pillows properly is to use the hottest water possible!
Verify that your pillow is able to be machine washed before washing it. Remove the pillowcase and protector and fill the washing machine one third full with hot water. You may even want to add some pans of even hotter water.
Add the ingredients to the washing machine and run it through a hot cycle.
Be sure to space the pillows properly to keep the washing machine from getting off balance.
When you’re finished, your pillows will be white and bright again!
