In many bathrooms around the world there is something known as a fake drawer. It is typically done for aesthetic reasons but it serves no useful purpose and it is a complete waste of space. By the time you are done looking at what this man did to his fake drawer, however, you will realize there are other possibilities.
The solution to a fake drawer is not to have a small pullout where you store half a bar of soap, it is to turn it into a useful area of the home. In this case, it was used to organize and store hair appliances and to get the huge tangle of electrical cords from the bottom drawer.
The first thing that he did was to clean out the drawers underneath the fake front and install some support beams.
He then pulled the piece of wood that looked like a fake drawer straight off.
The space was now open and ready for his new contraption to be installed.
He measured carefully to ensure that it would fit properly. He then went through the lower drawers to install the unit on tracks.
It took a few cuts and measurements but the unit was quickly installed. Inside of it are 4 different holes that will hold appliances. One was made a little larger for the hairdryer.
Now he put hinges on the “fake drawer” to reattach it to the cabinet. It was able to open fully.
It is now beginning to take shape.
He installed knobs to the back of the drawer. This helped to keep the cords organized and out-of-the-way.
This simple project turned what is typically useless space into one of the greatest features in the bathroom. With the drawer shut, you can’t tell the difference.
When it is open, however, you can see that it has everything you need to prepare in the morning. It will save you plenty of drawer space and might even make your mornings go a little faster.
