There are many times when we may have a desire to do something beautiful in our home and we may even have a vision, but we may be lacking funding. When that is the case, you can either be disappointed over your inability to care for your own needs or you can take the bull by the horns and use your imagination.
If you are looking for a little inspiration in this regard, you can check out what this woman did with her kitchen. She had been dreaming about a kitchen makeover for years but didn’t want to spend too much money on it. She was both clever and thrifty and she got the kitchen of her dreams.
The original kitchen was fine but it was plain. There were plenty of oak cabinets that were too small and made the kitchen look cluttered. She took her inspiration from a collection of turquoise butter print Pyrex cookware. Just wait until you see what she has done!
Tanya’s kitchen was serviceable when she started but it wasn’t where she wanted it to be. The oak cabinets were too small and didn’t have enough storage. The look also weighed down the space and made it feel cramped.
This is the picture after the transformation and it is difficult to believe it is the same kitchen. She removed the upper cabinets and replaced them with open shelves. The lower cabinets were given a coat of turquoise paint. The colour was inspired by her collection of Pyrex cookware. You can see it displayed on the shelves.
She freshened up the walls with some drywall and paneling. Everything was painted. The counters were replaced with wood and there were new sink fixtures installed.
The floor remain the same but you can still see quite a difference in how everything looks.
The yellow tones in the wood turned to a turquoise colour that made it look clean and light.
The open shelves gave plenty of storage without being overly crowded
The window doesn’t have any window treatments, so it allows lots of light to enter in the open room.
Tonya now has the ability to show off her Pyrex collection. It has served her purposes for many years.
There are plenty of other items included on the shelf that are colour-coordinated and provide personality to the room.
The landscape paintings over the stove are from Hungary.
She even managed to find a turquoise blender
There’s an open pantry next to the refrigerator for dry goods. The yellows and beiges of the pasta and grains really work well with the turquoise colour.
Solid maple countertops were made by her husband. They were built custom for the kitchen and stained white to match.
Tonya isn’t sure where the kitchen may eventually end up, but she is happy with it for now. The total makeover cost is approximately $1,100, so it was very affordable.
