When many of us think about honey and lemon drinks, we more than likely think about the medicine we buy for when we have a cold. The fact of the matter is, however, those medicines don’t taste like that by accident, they are designed to taste like that because honey and lemon works quite well!
Have you ever tried a challenge, where you eat a certain type of food or drink a certain type of drink for a specific length of time? There is a challenge going around where you drink warm water with honey and lemon every day for a month. Some people stuck to it for a year and the results are quite amazing.
In fact, some people who started it as a temporary fix decided that they would stick with it for the long term. Here’s why.
No Colds, Flu or Upset Stomach
One of the most impressive reports about individuals who stayed on this regimen for a long time is that they didn’t suffer from any colds or the flu and their stomach was not upset during the time that they were doing it. Of course, it’s not a miracle cure and there will be times when you may feel down or perhaps have a headache but overall, you are likely to feel much better just because you drink this simple drink.
No More Coffee
Many people who are on this challenge have given up morning coffee, which is something that most of us could not imagine. Not having coffee in the morning is beneficial in many ways, as you don’t experience the ups and downs of caffeine.
In addition, many of those who took the challenge became morning people. Rather than growling their way through the first few hours of the morning, they woke up refreshed.
Benefits Those around You
Not only are you going to benefit from drinking honey and lemon water, those around you may benefit from it as well. It’s not that they will experience any benefits because you are doing it, but when they see the benefits you are experiencing, they are likely to try it for themselves.
At first, you may find that you are making the drink for everyone in your household every day but before long, they will be chipping in because they love it as much as you do.
The Recipe
The recipe for this concoction is rather simple, but the types of ingredients you use is going to make a difference.
Honey – Don’t simply pick up a jar of honey at the grocery store. Most of it is not really honey, anyway. Purchase raw, unfiltered honey from a local beekeeper or perhaps a trusted vegetable stand. It also has the benefits of being local honey. 1 teaspoon of honey, more or less, should suffice.
Lemon – If possible, you should always use organic lemons but if not, just make sure that you are squeezing fresh lemon juice and not using lemon juice out of a bottle. The juice from half a lemon is what you should use per glass of water.
Water – If possible, use purified or filtered water. Make it hot enough so that the honey will melt and then you can add a splash of cold water so you can drink it immediately.
What Does It Do for You?
No Infections – This mixture stimulates the digestive system and hydrates the body. It helps reduce problems with constipation, is a diuretic and cleans the urinary tract.
Better Digestion – Any way you look at it, this mixture is going to aid with the digestive process. The lemons are great for the liver, honey is antibacterial and water helps to keep things moving.
Look Healthy – The lemon is beneficial in many ways. It purifies the blood and cleanses the liver, so it is awesome for the skin. The honey and water combination is antibacterial, which will show in your skin as well.
