If You Wear Crocs, Get Rid of Them Now. Here’s Why

The styles of footwear will often change but love them or hate them, crocs are extremely popular. In fact, it looks as if they are here for the duration.

Admittedly, I don’t think much of them as a stylish shoe but many people love wearing them and they have them on their feet at all times. They are known for their rubbery feel and comfort, and they are popular for toddlers as well.

Their popularity is due, in part, to the fact that you can wear them after they get wet and if they get dirty, you can clean them easily. The flexibility of crocs certainly adds to their popularity as well.

Crocs are an affordable footwear option and are considered a classic choice. You might be interested, however, to know that podiatrists don’t always agree. They are not fans of crocs and they say that you should take them off immediately.

Unfortunately Crocs are not suitable for all-day use,” Dr. Megan Leahy, a Chicago-based podiatrist with the Illinois Bone and Joint Institute, told our source.
While she granted that they “offer nice arch support,” she added that the real reason you shouldn’t wear them over long periods of time is that “these shoes do not adequately secure the heel. When the heel is unstable, toes tend to grip which can lead to tendinitis, worsening of toe deformities, nail problems, corns and calluses. The same thing can happen with flip flops or any backless shoes as the heel is not secured.”

That podiatrist is not the only one who thinks they are bad for your feet. The president of the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine, Dr. Alex Kor, had this to say:

“Patients are more likely to have foot pain if their shoes bend in the shank”

According to Kor, crocs are the poster child for shoes with a flexible shank. When worn on a daily basis, they send people to his office complaining of heel or arch pain.
