Almost every household uses terra-cotta clay pots and we use them for various purposes, but primarily they are for planting flowers.
They are relatively inexpensive and so we typically have plenty of them in reserve, and we may not know what to do with them after their general use is finished.
The fact of the matter is, clay pots can make some awesome DIY projects and you might be surprised with what you’re able to create. On this page, you will see a wide variety of uses for these terra-cotta pots, from making a mini lighthouse all the way to creating your own barbecue smoker. All it takes is a little bit of time on your part and some creativity and the sky is truly the limit.
1. Accent Table – This unique and beautiful table is nothing more than an upside down clay pot with the base used as the tabletop. Some twine and a little paint later, and you have an awesome table.
2. Wind chimes – You can make some awesome windchimes out of small clay pots. Simply paint them, tie them up with some twine and use some washers to make the sounds. You will be amazed with how beautiful it is.
3. DIY Smoker – Are you ready for BBQ season? When the weather gets warmer, it’s time to break out the smoker. You can make one on a budget using some terra-cotta pots. The full tutorial can be found here.
4. Beverage Dispenser – The perfect BBQ party is not perfect until you have some lemonade available. Turn a clay pot upside down and design it to hold your beverage dispenser.
5. Votives – Melted wax, a penny to cover the hole at the bottom of the pot and a wick are all you need to make awesome votives for your outside party.
6. Space Heater – The terra-cotta pot can reach some fairly high temperatures and it will distribute the heat more evenly in the room than flame alone. Read the full instructions here.
7. Mushroom Decorations – Make your own mushroom decorations for the garden with upside down clay pots. Paint them some whimsical colors, they are awesome.
8. Fire Hydrant – Put together some terra-cotta pots of various sizes and paint the whole thing red. It’s perfect for the garden or to give Fido something to aim for.
9. Birdfeeder – Hang this contraption up and fill it with bird feed. They will come from far and wide to enjoy the feast.
10. S’mores – Do you want the perfect end to an outdoor party? Make these personal S’mores roasters and everyone will love them.
11. Flowerpot Cupcakes – Make sure you use unglazed pots for this project. Some people also use a cupcake liner. Simply make your favorite cupcake recipe and bake them in the pot.
12. Silverware Caddy – Perfect for the outdoor party.
13. Lighthouse – Stack terra-cotta pots on top of each other and put a lantern on top. Paint them with stripes and they make an awesome lighthouse.
