Windows are there for a purpose, to allow natural sunlight in and to allow us to see outside. Unfortunately, we need to be so concerned over privacy these days that we often tend to just block out the windows and they become rather useless. Once you see this perfect DIY project, however, you will rethink your window usage again.
One of the benefits of doing this project is the fact that it allows plenty of natural sunlight to get inside. Not only is sunlight important for vitamin D production by the body, it also helps to lift our mood almost instantly. It is especially important for individuals who suffer from seasonal affective disorder (SAD) as a lack of sunlight can lead to some pretty serious depression.
The premise behind this DIY project is fairly simple. You will apply a cornstarch paste to the window and then stick fabric on using the paste. It may seem a little strange at first but when you see how beautiful it is when you are finished, you will rush to try it for yourself!
The first step is to prepare the cornstarch paste. Mix 2 tablespoons of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water and continue to stir thoroughly until you form a paste. You will then take the paste and put it into 1 1/2 cups of boiling water.
After stirring everything together thoroughly, paint the first coat on the window by applying it directly using a paint brush.
After the cornstarch paste has been applied to the window, take a precut square of lace fabric and press it onto the window. The paste that is already on the window will hold it in place. Brush a second coat of paste over the lace to cover it.
The holes in the lace work out quite well because it keeps bubbles to a minimum. After the second coat of paste is applied simply allow it to dry and then begin enjoying your new privacy windows!
Although you are allowing sunlight into the room, you’re also keeping people from seeing through into the room as well.
This is a perfect option for renters who want to avoid paying a more expensive price for privacy screen. In addition, the project does not damage the windows and it can easily be removed with some hot water and a sponge.
