There is something that all parents must face at some point or another, and that is a child that throws a tantrum in public. It can be a frustrating situation, to say the least, and sometimes the situation can get out of control quickly. Parents everywhere have looked for a way to handle it, but up until this point, there isn’t a clear cut answer.
A woman has taken to Facebook with a plan that many are saying just could be the answer, if it could be implemented properly. I’ll admit, most parents don’t like it when someone else steps forward to scold their children, especially a stranger. Sometimes, however, it is the only thing that works.
This Facebook post was shared anonymously by someone who may know the author. It’s a brilliant plan to help parents to deal with public tantrums.
“There should be a secret signal parents give when they can’t take anymore so a random stranger can mean mug the kid and tell it to shut up.”
This is an idea that has promise. Getting permission from the parent gives any stranger in the area the ability to step in and help without backlash.
Parents also need to recognise that we are members of a club. When we are around other parents, we often exchange knowing glances, because we are all in the same boat. If we take the idea and run with it, there will be many “sleeper agents” that would be ready to activate when we needed them.
The reasoning is sound. The fact that it is coming from a stranger will stop the child in their tracks. It also would reinforce the fears of stranger danger.
Admittedly, this may be a post made in jest, but there may be some truth behind it. When we stand together as parents, there is no telling how far we can go.
