The popularity of instant noodles is easy to see. Not only are they easy to make and delicious, they are also quite affordable as well! Many people who are on a budget will eat instant noodles at almost every meal.
What many people don’t know about instant noodles is the metabolic changes that they can cause in the body. Those changes have been linked to a number of difficulties, including an increased risk for heart disease and stroke.
Why are instant noodles so bad? Because they contain something known as Tertiary-butyl hydroquinone (TBHQ). You may not be able to pronounce it but all you need to know about it is that it is a byproduct of the petroleum industry. It is frequently used as a food additive for processed foods that are cheaply manufactured.
The effect that these noodles have on the inside of the stomach was tested by a gastrointestinal specialist. The results were quite frightening.
It was found that people who ate dried noodles on a regular basis were more likely to develop “metabolic syndrome” regardless of the rest of their diet. Exercise was not a factor as well.
Individuals who suffer from metabolic syndrome have a number of health problems, including high blood pressure, high blood sugar and increased risks for stroke, heart disease and diabetes.
Although instant noodle is a convenient and delicious food, there could be an increased risk for metabolic syndrome given [the food’s] high sodium, unhealthy saturated fat and glycemic loads,” said study co-author Hyun Shin, a doctoral candidate at the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston.
South Korea is where more people consume noodles than most areas. Risks have been on the rise in recent years.
We [in the States] don’t eat it as much, but the ramen noodles are being sold, so this could apply to anywhere they’re sold, and they’re sold almost everywhere.
Instant noodles are high in salt, fat and calories
That doesn’t mean that every single person is going to respond the same way, but the piece to keep in mind is that it’s not a healthy product, and it is a processed food.
To top it all off, the Korea FDA found Benzopyrene, which is known to cause cancer, in 6 brands of noodles manufactured by Nong Shim Company Ltd.
