If you were to ask most people what Listerine is used for, they would say it is for keeping your breath fresh. Admittedly, that is the most common use for Listerine, but it is only one choice. What might come as a surprise to you is that there are actually many other ways to use Listerine around the home.
If you have just been gargling with Listerine, you are really missing out on a number of interesting and incredible ways to use it. The following 10 ways to use Listerine can help you to take it to the next level.
Why Use Listerine?
The inventors of Listerine had much more in mind when they created the product than using it as a mouthwash. It was originally formulated in 1879 and developed as a surgical antiseptic. It wasn’t used for bad breath until the 1970s!
Included in Listerine are a number of helpful ingredients, including eucalyptus, thyme and alcohol. It’s no wonder this product is used in so many ways.
1: Under Your Arms
If you run out of deodorant, Listerine can come to the rescue. Pour some Listerine on a cotton ball and dab it under your arms.
2: Foot Soak
Listerine is a great way to treat toenail fungus. Make a Listerine bath and soak your toes in it for 30 minutes. You may even try putting a little white vinegar into the mix for good measure.
3: Toilet
Poor some Listerine in your toilet bowl and give it a light scrub. It can clean and deodorize the bowl effectively and makes it smell minty fresh.
4: Itchiness
If you have an itchy bug bite, dab a little Listerine on it. It can bring quick relief. It also works on other itchy rashes, such as poison oak or poison ivy.
5: Hair
At one point, Listerine was marketed as a way to treat dandruff. It never really took off for that purpose, but it is worth a try.
Massage Listerine into the scalp, wrap your head in a towel and then wash your hair clean.
6: Dogs
Many pet owners invest in expensive flea products but Listerine may be all that is necessary. Not only does it work well, it helps you to avoid harsh chemicals.
Mix some Listerine with shampoo or dilute it with water and use it as a spray.
7: Your Face
Did you know that Listerine can be used to fight acne? Some people have claimed it works better than any topical prescription drugs they have tried! Simply soak a cotton ball with Listerine and apply it to your skin.
8: Toothbrush
Most people recognize that Listerine battles germs in the mouth but it can also fight germs on your toothbrush as well.
Put some Listerine in a glass and soak your toothbrush in it for a few hours.
9: Computer Screens
People might consider you crazy for trying this, but Listerine is great for cleaning computer or television screens. Don’t spray it directly on the screen, spray it onto a soft cloth and wipe away fingerprints and other dirt.
10: Trash
Soak a tissue in Listerine and throw it into the bottom of your trash can. It will help to mask any strong smells from the garbage that goes on top of it.
