Most of us don’t give much consideration to our front doormat, outside of the few minutes it takes to purchase one at the store. Yet it is there for us every day, saying goodbye to us when we leave and greeting us when we arrive home again.
It helps to keep our carpets cleaned and it makes a statement to anyone who visits our home before they ever enter it.
Although most of us would consider the doormat to be somewhat ordinary, it can be extraordinary if you make the right changes.
As you will see, it is not only possible to use doormats in other ways throughout the home, it is absolutely essential if you have a creative side.
Here are our favorite ways doormats have been used.
Chic Wall Hangings – Why hang ordinary paintings on the wall when you can dress up your home with eye-catching doormats? These are more than a piece of art, they are a conversation piece.
Concrete Creations – It only takes a few simple materials and some creativity to make something wonderful for your home. By making a simple concrete form and using the doormat to “carve” out the design, you have the perfect addition for your garden, as stepping stones or even to make a unique end table.
Create Something Fantastic for the Garden – Much of the world has moved away from storing things on paper to storing them digitally.
If you have an old filing cabinet in your home, you can make it into something fantastic for the garden. Just follow the simple instructions and you won’t believe how beautiful it is.
Hide Your Air Vent – Do you have a special wall in your home where you hang the family pictures? If there is an air vent on the wall, it can detract from the look. By hanging a door mat over it, you hide the vent while still allowing air flow
Sleep Well – A headboard can make a statement in the bedroom but you don’t need to spend an arm and a leg to buy one. Simply use some door mats and you can have a custom headboard with a beautiful design.
Recycle – Don’t throw out the old doormat. Use it as a stencil for some great projects.
Wall Art – With some wooden boards, spray paint and door mats as the template, you can have a beautiful and unique art piece in your home.
Add Privacy – Do your windows leave in sunlight but leave you open to the public? Use doormats to give your family privacy without blocking the natural light.
Wall Saver – Hang doormats under your bar to save the wall from shoe marks. They look great too!
You may think of doormats as only being something under your feet but with a little creativity, you can make them into something so much more.
