What do you do in your backyard to relax? For some people, it is a matter of getting out and doing some gardening or perhaps putting out some lawn chairs and enjoying a barbecue. Once you see this DIY project, however, you will recognize that it is the most awesome option available.
The person doing this project decided that he wanted something nice in his backyard, after his children outgrew the swing set. He decided to put a hanging porch swing with a fire pit in its place.
After selling the old swingset online and using the money to finance the project, he got to work. He found the porch swing he wanted to use online and he built of wood structure around it. It took a few days of work, but it was well worth it!
Here is how he did it.
This DIY-er wanted to do something nice in his backyard once the children’s playset was no longer in use.
He decided to build a fire pit surrounded by porch swings
He began the construction by building a wooden hexagon that would be the fire pit topper
He positioned the six posts for the porch swings, using a central rod to measure the placement for the posts.
He lined the area of each hole with a tarp to protect nearby grass.
Now that the posts were in place, he started to level the larger structure. The wood hexagon was placed on top of the post and maneuvered until it fit level.
After everything was anchored in place, he poured some gravel into each post hole. It would prevent any problems with water drainage.
Concrete was poured on top of the structure of the was allowed to dry overnight. He braced up the structure with wood so it would move while it was drying.
After the structure was dry, he removed the braces and sanded the post. Now that everything was smooth, the top was added for stability.
The wooden structure was stained and the underlying yard was leveled. He then put the stone fire pit in place, securing the blocks with adhesive.
Finally, porch swings were hung in place and it was ready to use!
His family loves being out in the great outdoors, having a comfortable place to sit and a fire in front of them.
