There are many herbs that have been used for therapeutic purposes but thyme is one that is often overlooked. The fact of the matter is, however, it has been used for hundreds of years to treat a wide variety of ailments. Those issues that were treated included almost anything you can imagine from the flu to epileptic seizures.
Thyme was mixed with lavender in the Middle Ages in equal amounts and spread on the floor of churches to get rid of unpleasant odors. It has also been used to prevent infections and heal wounds by being crushed and applied to the affected areas. The oils of thyme are antiviral, antiseptic, antiparasitic, antirheumatic and antifungal.
Using thyme regularly can help to lower the viral load in the body so it is good for people who have chronic fatigue, multiple sclerosis, lupus, tinnitus, fibromyalgia and vertigo. If you suffer from Hashimoto’s disease or rheumatoid arthritis, it may be able to help as well. The only thing you need to do to treat those conditions is drink thyme tea in the morning.
Thyme is naturally high in many vitamins and minerals, including potassium, calcium and iron. These can help with the production of red blood cells and regulate the blood pressure in the human body. It also is high in B complex vitamins, A and C.
It has been used to prevent cancer, and it is rich in terpenoids. Studies have even shown that using thyme regularly raises how much DHA is in the kidneys, heart and brain.
The essential oils of thyme have strong anti-spasmodic properties and can be used to treat the following:
gingivitis
laryngitis
asthma
throat infections
acute and chronic bronchitis
sore throats
coughs
inflammation of the mouth
