She Did THIS With Her Keys. Now She Will Never Lose Them Again

One of the problems that many of us face is losing our keys. It doesn’t seem to matter how many times you tell yourself you are going to be better with them, they just seem to disappear. Although many of us may have that problem, it typically boils down to now having the right system in place.

Believe it or not, there is a better way to care for your keys. Not only does it keep you from misplacing them, you will never find yourself locked out of your home or car again. Try these ideas on for size and you can thank me later.

1. Give Your Keys A Label

The first step in organizing your keys is to give them a label. Nothing is more frustrating that having to sift through dozens of keys to find the right one. it doesn’t matter if they are in a bowl on the counter or on our keyring, it is awkward and wastes valuable time.

Here are some options for labeling your keys so they will be unique.

Use nail polish

This is probably the most popular method because it is easy and it lasts a long time.

If you want to do something a bit more unique, you can try this fun craft. It creates clay animals that act as a key cover. The instructions can be found here.

Do you do any knitting? Here is something you might want to try. You use the same basic method that you would use when you made bigger blankets but knock them down to size.

2. Make Sure You Give Them A Spot

There is something more important than decorating your keys, it’s keeping them where they belong. As they say, “A place for everything and everything in its place.” Here are some ideas.

Make your key spot right inside the door. No excuses!

This project can take on any form you like. You can hang a hook on the wall or have a table with a key bowl. As long as you have a place for your keys and make it a habit to put them there, you will always know where to find them.

3. Don’t Forget The Spare Key

At times, it doesn’t matter how many precautions we take, we are still going to fall short of the mark. Fortunately, you always have the spare key as a backup, provided you take action now to put one in place.

Something that most people do is to hide a key near the door. Of course, you wouldn’t want to use any type of obvious location, it would quickly be found.

Try gluing the lid if an empty pill bottle to the bottom of a rock. Dig a small hole where the pill bottle will fit and your key will be completely hidden.

6

Don’t forget the spare car key as well. The full key, including the chip, is very expensive but you can have a key made without the chip for a few dollars. It can open the door of the car and give you access to the keys you just locked inside. Hid your new spare key by screwing it behind your license plate.
