TVs have certainly changed over the years. At one time, a huge console floor model TV was a sign of prestige. Now they belong somewhere in a museum. Some of us find that we still have these old dinosaurs stored somewhere and if you do, you will be amazed with what you can do with them.
At times, how we look at things is more important than how they actually look. Some people may just see an old piece of junk but after you see this project, your perception will never be the same again. It turned out so awesome, I could hardly believe it was the same piece.
For this DIY project, we are going to turn this old TV into a beautiful side table, complete with shelves.
There will be some work to gut the old box, but it will be well worth it. You do need to be cautious, because some of the parts inside these old TVs can hold an electrical charge, even if it has been unplugged for quite some time.
After removing the inner parts, remove the knobs, buttons and the glass screen.
Now that the box has been cleared out, it will look like a totally different piece of furniture.
Add a wooden frame inside of the cabinet for the shelving
Vertical dividers can be added to create additional storage options.
After adding spacers and some extra support, it will start to really take shape.
After adding a few coats of paint, it will no longer look like an old TV at all. It is absolutely beautiful and anyone would be proud to have this in their home.
The last part of the project is to find the perfect place for your new cabinet.
