At some point or another, all of us have come across a sociopath in our life. They may seem innocent on the outside but eventually, they are able to work their way into our head and manipulate us for their benefit.
Sociopaths come in many different shapes and sizes, some of which may seem rather innocent. They could be friends of the family, members of the clergy or perhaps even family members! Some of us need to deal with sociopaths in the workplace as well.
Sociopaths can use words to control others, including these 6 sayings that they use to make you feel crazy.
1: “You’re just ________.”
Just fill in the blank with anything from bipolar to crazy and you have a common saying of sociopaths. It is a type of name-calling that makes you feel less worthy and more insecure. They bring you down to justify their own behavior.
2: “You just didn’t understand me.”
In many cases, a sociopaths will do something that causes a negative reaction and then they will blame you for that reaction.
3: “Stop being so sensitive.”
When you become frustrated or angry over what a sociopaths is doing, they will just tell you that you are being too sensitive. It is only an excuse so that they don’t bear any guilt for what has been going on.
4: “Stop being dramatic.”
If you are accused of being dramatic by a sociopaths, they are trying to minimize your emotions. They want to tear you down and make you second-guess your true feelings.
5: “You’re reading too much into this.”
Although it is possible for us to read too much into a situation, sociopaths often make you feel paranoid about our own feelings. They want you to question your motives in the hopes that you don’t question their motives.
6: “You’d never survive without me.”
Once you begin to recognize a sociopaths for what they truly are, they will manipulate you even further. They don’t want a healthy relationship with you, they want control over you. They want you to feel like you are crazy and they want to get away with it scot-free.
