7 Tricks a Nurse Would Teach You

There are many people that make the medical community beneficial to us but some of the unsung heroes are all too often the nurses. They work tirelessly behind the scenes, helping individuals who are hurting and often, saving the day without so much as a pat on the back.

The years of experience that nurses have can certainly come in handy, not only in a hospital setting but even at home. As a matter of fact, these 7 tips are sure to be beneficial to you and you will likely put them to use in your life right away.

1. Toothpaste Can Be Smeared below Your Nose and on Your Fingers

1

There is menthol in toothpaste and when you smear it below your nose, it can block unpleasant odors and make it easier to breathe. If you don’t want to rub it below your nose, keep some on your fingers and sniff your fingers when necessary. Toothpaste has a similar action to Vicks vapor rub, but it smells great!

2. Start Folding Towels

2

When life gets stressful, one simple solution is to start folding laundry. Try to avoid the difficult pieces, such as sheets or shirts and go for the easy, mindless routine of folding washcloths and towels. The action of folding laundry such as this can distract you and help to calm you down without requiring a lot of your attention.

3. Superglue for Cuts

3

Liquid bandages are becoming quite popular because they work great and are convenient. Superglue is very similar to liquid bandages and if you don’t have any of the actual product around, superglue can do quite nicely. If you have a large cut, have it checked but otherwise, a little superglue can save the day.

4. Tampons for Bleeding

4

Using either a tampon or sanitary pad can certainly help if you are bleeding. You can use either to absorb blood until the bleeding stops or cut a tampon in half and gently insert it into the nose to stop a nosebleed.

5. Hydrogen Peroxide for Stains

5

If you have a problem with a stain, hydrogen peroxide might just save the day. Don’t pour it directly on the stain but put some on a cloth and dab it on the stain to remove it. This often works on stains that have already set as well.

6. Salt vs Lemon

6

If you are having any type of medical problem, you likely have the advice to limit salt in your diet. Unfortunately, this can leave your food tasting rather bland. You can still enjoy your food by sprinkling a little lemon juice on it to add some flavor.

7. Rubbing Alcohol for Tangled Hair

7

Severely matted or tangled hair can often be controlled by using rubbing alcohol. It breaks down what causes the tangle and helps the knots to disappear. Just a few drops on the area that is experiencing the problem should suffice.
