According to recent research, if you are a smarter individual, you may tend to stay away from social interaction. Of course, this isn’t going to come as a surprise to everyone, especially those who lead a quiet life on their own but are highly intelligent.
Satoshi Kanazawa from the London School of Economics and Norman Li of Singapore Management University are evolutionary psychologists. They published a study in the British Journal of psychology that was to determine how intelligence, population density and friendship affected modern happiness.
For the study, they surveyed 15,000 individuals between the ages of 15-28. A few things were noticed. People who live in the city were less happy than those who lived in the country. Additionally, individuals tended to have a higher life satisfaction with increased interaction.
That wasn’t true across the board.
It was also discovered that individuals with higher IQs reported that they were less satisfied when they were hanging out with their friends.
“The findings in here suggest (and it is no surprise) that those with more intelligence and the capacity to use it… are less likely to spend so much time socializing because they are focused on some other longer term objective.”
In other words, if someone in your life is extra smart, they would rather stay home by themselves than go out to dinner with friends. Don’t worry about it, happiness takes on a different look for all of us.
