People have been migrating to the outdoors for years, as homeowners are recognizing the benefit of using their outdoor living space. At one time, it was enough to have a simple barbecue on a wood deck but today, you want to accessorize in every way possible.
Some of the common accessories that are included in a backyard might include a Koi pond, outdoor kitchen or vegetable garden. Something else that you will find in many backyards, and once you see it you will want one, is the fire pit!
Why is a fire pit so appealing? Because it is perfect throughout the entire year. It doesn’t matter if it is warm outside or not, having a fire pit will certainly enhance your enjoyment of your outdoor area. Of course, having a fire pit is also going to extend the amount of time that you can use your yard as well.
If you want to enjoy a fire pit in your own backyard, it is not difficult to make one. In fact, all you need are some basic tools and supplies and you can build one this weekend. Best of all, the entire project will cost less than $150!
If you want to follow what is taking place in this tutorial exactly, you will start with 34 pieces of 3-1/2″ x 11-1/2″ x 7″ Crestone Beveled Retaining Wall Block. The lips can be removed by striking them carefully with a hammer. The flattened area can then be utilized for aligning the blocks around the ring.
The fire ring is then placed into the center of the blocks and a second layer is added. You can temporarily remove the fire ring while you’re working, but continue to check for proper fit with each layer. Adhesive caulking can be used between the layers of block to hold them in place permanently.
The third row of block should also be secured with adhesive caulking. After everything is in place, you can drop the fire ring into the center of the block and the lip should rest on the top layer. Pea pebbles can be used inside of the pit to provide a secure resting place and the rest can be used outside of the pit for decorative purposes.
I bet you never thought that it could be this easy to make a fire pit. When you also consider how cheap it is… It is a win-win!
