For all of us housekeepers out there, I am sure you will agree, cleaning the tracks of those windows is an almighty pain in the bum. First and foremost with so many little cracks and crevices they seem to attract dirt and debris like nowhere else, and of course being white they show the dirt and look really disgusting. And the number of times I have caught a knuckle or hurt my fingers trying to clean the dirt off I wouldn’t even begin to count. It is without a doubt at the top of my jobs I detest list. But of course it is also a job, you can’t leave, because it is one of those jobs that the longer you leave it the more the dirt gets ingrained, and then the harder it becomes. This wonderful method from First Home Love Life will make all the difference.
But this wonderful little tip is about to put to an end to your hours of misery cleaning those tracks. And when you see how simple it is, your only gripe will be the fact that you didn’t discover it earlier in your life.
The tools for this job are pretty simple to obtain, baking soda, white vinegar, Q-tips and a toothbrush. First, you sprinkle baking soda along the entire length of the track, before covering it with a thin layer of the vinegar. Don’t be too aggressive with this as you don’t want a massive reaction, this is, after all, one of the science projects you may remember from school.
Give the concoction a few minutes to settle and then start to gently rub with the Q-tips. Small circular motions are all that is required and it is important to note, that this is all about loosening up tough stains rather than attempting to complete the job in one fell swoop.
Now it’s time to pour some hot water along the track, again
speeding up the cleaning process. Now just grab some paper towels
and wipe away the dirt and excess water. For any really stubborn
stains bring your toothbrush into play, as it can easily get into
all of those little nooks and crannies. Now your window tracks will
look like brand new, and you will be proud enough to let even your
mother in law see them.
