How to Easily Clean Your Microwave

There is an area of the kitchen that many of us find embarrassing but it is often found behind closed doors. It is the microwave, and more than likely, you have had difficulties keeping this part of the kitchen clean. After all, any spills or spatters that occur inside of the microwave are quickly baked on as the food is being zapped.

If you are embarrassed by your microwave but find cleaning it difficult, you are about to have a smile on your face. Rather than waiting for an extended amount of time to clean your microwave from this point forward, you will be happy to do it because it is easy and only takes about 5 minutes.

Why is it important to keep your microwave clean? It is not only because of embarrassment, your food is also being cooked in the microwave as well. Any of the spills or spatters that are in the microwave are also going to be cooked and those fumes are going to mingle with the food you are cooking. You also need to be concerned about bacteria that could be growing on the surface when there are food particles there as well.

Not only is this cleaning method going to take care of the visible particles in the microwave, it is also going to kill the bacteria as well. Gather the following supplies to get started:

Distilled White Vinegar
Water
Essential Oil (Lemon Is Preferred)
Microwave Safe Bowl
Toothpick

Fill the bowl with 2 cups of water and add 2 tablespoons of vinegar. Put in a few drops of the essential oil that you chose. Admittedly, essential oil does not help clean the microwave but it does neutralize the smell of vinegar. It will also leave your kitchen smelling lemony fresh.

Now that everything is mixed together in the bowl, drop a toothpick in the mixture. The reason why it is important to include the toothpick is because without it, the liquid could get superheated and explode in the microwave. When you have a toothpick in the liquid, bubbles can attach to the wood rather than attaching to the smooth surface of the bowl.

Microwave this mixture for 5 minutes on high. After the timer stops, allow it to sit in the microwave for a few minutes before you open the door.

Allowing the mixture to stay in the microwave helps to loosen the tough spots that would otherwise be difficult to clean. Additionally, it allows time for the essential oil to eliminate the bad smells that may exist.

Be sure to use oven mitts when removing the bowl because it could be extremely hot.

After the bowl is out, wipe down the microwave with a sponge or paper towel. All of the stuck on gunk will easily wipe away and you will be left with a perfectly clean microwave!
