I think everyone has something they love about summer and at times, people just want to give their homes a summer feel so they can enjoy it year round. There are many ways to do so, but this DIY project is now at the top of my list.
It doesn’t matter if you live by the beach or not, this cute coastal welcome sign is the perfect way to greet your guests year round. Even in the winter, it will make you think of warmer weather.
This sign is unique because it uses flip-flops. It will instantly give that beachy vibe you are looking to put out there. For this project, 4 colorful pair of flip-flops were purchased and a number of artsy accessories were used.
A hot glue gun was used to decorate the flip-flops with tiny seashells. Then, the word “Welcome” was painted on the sign. It turned out super cute and it is the perfect project to do with the kids this summer.
You can follow the step by step tutorial below but don’t be afraid to put your own spin on it. It’s an inexpensive and fun project you will enjoy for years to come.
Materials:
7 to 8 flip-flops
Hot-glue gun
Paint and paintbrush
Beach decals (seashells)
Burlap crafting ribbon
1. Arrange the flip-flops in the order you want them to be. Then start gluing them together.
Place a good amount of hot glue on all the spots where the flip-flops connect.
2. When dry, flip over, and hot-glue the burlap crafting ribbon to the back, creating a ‘hanger.’
(*If you think your welcome sign needs more support, you can attach 2 to 3 wooden rulers to the back of the flip-flops. This will help weigh them down and keep them from falling forward.)
3. Turn back to the front side and begin attaching seashells to the flip-flops.
Get creative here and feel free to use other decals, like flowers or butterflies. Find what best fits your home decor and have fun with it.
4. Next, paint letters on each flip-flop to spell out ‘Welcome.’
Let dry for a couple hours. Then, you’re ready to hang your sign. It is the perfect summer touch for any home or beach house.
I really love how this turned out and think it really is the easiest summer craft to add a little tropical flair to the home. Plus, it would look great hanging on the front door or in the foyer.
