This Adorable Easter Basket Only Takes a String and Balloon to Make

Do you remember what Easter morning was like when you were a child? You woke up in the morning so surprised to run downstairs and see what was in your basket.

When you got there, it was full of chocolate and sugary surprises, just waiting for you to dig in.

Most of us remember these childhood memories and we want to make sure that our own children have memories as well.

Thanks to this unique and rather adorable DIY project, one mother is hoping to make memories for her children that will last for generations.

First of all, you will need to gather the necessary supplies:

1 Balloon
3 bundles of cotton yarn
Ribbon
Glitter
Metallic Crinkle Cellophane
Cellophane
Decorative add-ons
Sugar Bowl

1

How to Do It:

Blow up the balloon and then attach a string to the bottom of the balloon near the opening. Be sure to leave approximately 30 cm of string attached to the end.

Take three bundles of fine yarn and wrap it around the balloon until you’ve covered the entire surface with a complex weave of yarn. The pieces will overlap each other as they cross the balloon and it will resemble a cross weave of a basket.

2

Your balloon now needs a bath. In a large bowl, or the bathroom sink, mix together a sugar solution of one part warm water and two-part sugar. Soak the balloon and make sure that it is completely wet. If you want to add some sparkle, put some in the bowl to give that special touch to the finished product.

3

Tie the balloon over a shower rod leaving the extra string you had left attached to the opening. Allow it to completely dry and then repeat the process. Doing it again will help to ensure that the basket is durable.

The basket should dry completely until only a single small wet spot is on the bottom. It is now time to put it on parchment paper and press down on the balloon so that a flat surface is created.

This is where the fun part comes in. Take a pin and pop the balloon! Cut the upper pieces of the basket away, making sure that you leave the yarn intact across the top for a handle. Some people use a ruler to make sure that the line is straight but you should be able to estimate the cut as well.

4

Put some ribbon on the basket using a hot glue gun. A small bow can also be added to the top where the balloon was.

5

Line the basket was cellophane and fill it with straw. Any finishing touches to make it unique are up to you.

Here’s to making memories!
