Cold sores are one of those events in life that all of us would rather live without. Not only can they be uncomfortable or even painful, they are extremely embarrassing. There is nothing worse than waking up in the morning and finding a cold sore popping out on your lip.
Unfortunately, cold sores seem to come up when it is the absolute worst time for them to be there. Perhaps we have an important event the next day, and now we are in a panic. If you have a cold sore, there is no reason to panic, you can eliminate the cold sore in only one day.
The following 8 tricks can help you get rid of a cold sore quickly and easily.
1. Milk
You might be surprised to learn that the milk you have in your refrigerator may just be the solution you need. Soak a cotton ball with milk (whole milk works best) and apply it repeatedly to the cold sore. Be sure you don’t wash it off!
2. Licorice
Many of us have loved licorice since we were young but it is more than a tasty treat. Licorice root has glycyrrhizic, a type of acid that can stop the virus causing cold sores in its tracks. Mix licorice powder or extract with water, make it into a paste and apply it directly to the sore.
3. Peroxide
You have a bottle of peroxide in your medicine cabinet; it’s now time to use it. It has antibiotic properties, and it helps to clean the sore faster than many other methods. It is especially beneficial if the sore is bleeding. Apply it to the sore every two or three hours and it will disappear.
4. Garlic
Garlic is great for a cold but it is also great for a cold sore. It has antiviral, antibiotic and other healing properties. Crush the garlic clove and put it directly on the sore. Yes it’s smelly, but it works.
5. Peppermint Oil
Peppermint oil also has antiviral properties but it smells a lot better than garlic. Apply the oil to the sore three times every day for instant relief and to make the cold sore disappear.
6. Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil is one of those natural healing options that does almost anything you could imagine. Apply it throughout the day to the cold sore and before you go to bed and it will dry up and disappear.
7. Vanilla
If you have some vanilla bean or vanilla extract in your cupboard, go get it right now. Vanilla has high alcohol levels, making it difficult for the cold sore to survive when you apply it 4 or 5 times throughout the day.
8. Ice
You may think that ice is too simple of a solution, but don’t let the simplicity for you. Apply ice directly to the sore throughout the day. It helps to remove the swelling and ease the pain.
