Unless you happened to come along after the days of VHS tapes, you probably have some old Disney tapes tucked aside somewhere. Sure, you don’t own a VCR any longer but you probably just couldn’t part with them. That may be good news for you, because they could be worth a lot of money!
Some VHS Disney movies are selling for a very high price. In fact, it is not out of the question for those movies to sell for anywhere from $1,000 all the way up to $10,000! For example, Beauty and the Beast is one of the most valuable and copies have sold on eBay for up to $9,000! You may be wondering why they are so highly priced. It is because there are collectors out there who are looking for these tapes and they will pay to get them.
Those collectors consider some of the tapes to be more valuable than others, based on factors such as defects and artwork.
One factor that makes the tapes valuable is if you see a black diamond on the side that says “The Classics.” If you have such a special edition VHS tape, it could bring in $250. If the diamond also has Disney’s signature next to it, the tape could be worth thousands of dollars!
One edition of The Little Mermaid was sold for a nice price. It went for $6,000 because there was banned artwork on the cover. This happens more often than you might realize.
If you own a copy of Beauty and the Beast that has the song “Human Again,” the bids could go quite high. That song didn’t make the final cut to later editions.
