I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love spending time in my backyard. I tried to make it as beautiful as possible, but when I saw this DIY project, I realized I had something I needed to try for myself.
The man who designed this DIY project wanted to have something that appeared to be a natural geyser in his yard. Water would come up from underneath the cluster of rocks rather than looking at a stagnant pool.
The beauty of this fountain is not only in the way that it looks, it is also in the sounds as well. In addition, the lack of stagnation means that bugs are not going to be a problem.
If you would like to see the ultimate in backyard DIY projects, check out how this fountain was created.
The person who designed this fountain didn’t want something that would require hours to maintain after it was built. He didn’t want it to look like a ready-made fountain but he still wanted a tranquil water feature.
He came up with something that appeared to be a natural geyser.
He started the project by digging a hole. It looks like his dog is there to help him.
He took the dirt away evenly, maintaining a level surface around the perimeter.
He wanted the hole to be deep enough so that the lip of the underground water basin would be level with the lower level ground.
Then he dug a trench for electrical wiring. He decided to use electrical conduit for this purpose. In that way, he could hide the electrical work underground.
He also knew that if it was necessary to replace or repair the electrical system, he could simply pull the cord from the conduit.
He wasn’t looking for something that would stress him out with a lot of upkeep. That is why he decided on this, that would be really easy to maintain.
He connected the fountain to a pre-existing sprinkler system, and that way the basin would refill on its own.
After the electrical and plumbing work was completed, he covered the dirt around the basin in landscape fabric.
The fabric would allow water to overflow and seep back into the earth but it still protected the area from weed growth. Another stress-free addition!
He then laid out a hardware cloth and rebar over the hole. It was a support structure for the rock. Since it was over 1000 pounds of rock, it was necessary!
The Noiyo cobblestones are quite beautiful and they hid everything that was under the surface. In the end, it looked as if the water fountain was naturally coming up from the earth.
