Family Transforms Their Garden With An All-Natural DIY Pool

Having a pool in the garden is a dream for many homeowners. It would give the family an opportunity to relax and enjoy some fun, but it would also provide some solitude for family members as well. Unfortunately, a pool is often out of reach for many families.

When you think of a pool, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? If you are like most people, you think about a concrete box in the ground willed with chlorinated water. Although that is one definition, it certainly isn’t the only option.

This family has created what just may be the perfect pool. Not only does it include all-natural and eco-friendly cleaning and filtering systems, it uses no harsh chemicals.

Look at the pictures below to see how you can enjoy this as well.

1

It started in 2011, and at the time, the garden wasn’t very nice to visit. That started to change when the plotted out the pool and decided to make it look like a natural pond.

The black outlined area is the deeper section and the curved white outline would be the edges of the wading pond.

2

Next, it was time to excavate.

3

As they dug, channels and piping were put in place for the filtration system. It would be housed in the garage.

Imagine the view from the glass sun room!

4

After the excavation was complete, the entire area was lined with felt.

5

They now put in the pond liner over top of the felt. This would keep the water from soaking into the ground. The materials were ordered from Germany.

6

Now it was time to fill the pool with gravel and stones. The homeowner had this to say about the project:

“We were five men and worked around eight hours to build the walls of the pond. We were tired to death by sunset”

7

Next, it was time to put in the floor.

8

Then the pond was filled, but it wouldn’t remain as a narrow rectangle

9

The water was allowed to spill over top of the walls. It created a shallow pond, perfect for dipping in your toes if you didn’t want to jump in the deep pool.

10

This project took over a year to complete, and construction stopped in the winter.

The cat didn’t seem to mind the frozen pond, though.

11

They opted for a natural filtration system. These bins are filled with progressively finer materials, starting with gravel and ending with foam. The water is then pumped back into the pond.

The water is also treated with an eco-friendly chemical compound and UV light to inhibit algae and bacteria growth.

12

They installed lights in the deeper pool

13

A fountain and some driftwood was added. The fountain is beautiful but it also keeps the water moving.

14

By the spring of 2012, the pond was really taking shape. They then moved onto the next phase so they could have a nice place to look sit and enjoy the view.

15

The deck continued to grow and wrap around the new pool

16

It runs along 3 sides of the pool, providing plenty of seating.

17

This yard looks like a great place to have a party of a summer barbecue. I hope I get invited.
