Make the Perfect Picnic Blanket from Your Old Jeans

We live in a world where technology rules the day, but it is still nice to get outside and enjoy some fresh air every once in a while. Although there are many reasons to hit the outdoors, one that is perfect, is going on a picnic.

Picnics can certainly make for a relaxing and beautiful afternoon, but it is important to have the proper supplies along with you. Bugs can be problematic, and paper napkins can simply blow away. Add to that the problem of everything getting wet if the grass is wet and you really need to be prepared.

If you are ready to hit the outdoors and go for a picnic, you will not want to leave without this crucial piece. As a matter of fact, it is not only perfect as a picnic blanket, it is a durable cover that has many uses. You will never want to leave home without it.

You will need about 12 pairs of jeans cut into 121 squares. That’s 10 squares per pair of jeans.

1

Measure the fabric squares so they are 6 1/2 inches on all four sides

2

After cutting the fabric, start to lay them out in rows of 11 squares each.

3

Try to mix-and-match the different textures and colors of denim in each row.

After the 11 rows of 11 squares are laid out, start to sew it together at the seams until it is one blanket.

4

After the seams have been attached, iron everything to flatten it.

5

After showing it together and ironing it, put it facedown on the floor. Cover the back of the blue Jean quilt with a shower curtain. You want the shower curtain to match the size and then sew the seam around the edges.

6

After you are finished, you will have a beautiful, durable and waterproof blanket.

Thanks to the shower curtain, you don’t have to worry about the moisture on the grass and the blanket will be big enough to accommodate everyone.

7

Every so often, you should have a pocket that was on the jeans sewed into the blanket. You can use this for tucking your napkins so they don’t blow away.
