Sarah and Steve recently moved into a new home in California along with their two-year-old son. Inside of their son’s bedroom, Sarah found a tiny, for 4 foot high door and went inside. It began a new project that would take two years to complete.
On the other side of that small door was an old storage room with a pitched roof. The floor was beat up linoleum and it had exposed insulation, outdated wood paneling and it needed a lot of work. It is hard to tell what went into that small space but both Steve and Sarah recognized that it wouldn’t be convertible into a useful spot in the home. They kept the door hidden behind a dresser and never told him about the room but they knew it had a lot of potential.
After being in the home for about a year, their son was now three years old and they decided to do something awesome with the room. Just wait till you see the change.
Steve and Sarah bought a house in California and found a small door in their son’s room. Yes, it was kind of creepy but they recognized the potential.
They think it was some type of storage room that had long been abandoned. Since it only had a small doorway and a pitched roof, it couldn’t be converted into usable space.
Rather than knocking down the wall to expand the room, they had a better project in mind. They kept it as is for now and hid the door behind the dresser so that their son would not know it was there.
A year after owning the home, Sarah and Steve decided to convert the secret room into an awesome birthday present.
They worked on the room in secret while their son was in school. It took a year for the work to be completed.
After getting the room and installing new flooring and drywall, a fresh coat of paint topped things off. Sarah worked on decorating the room perfectly.
When the room was done, it was awesome!
They gave their son clues on his fourth birthday that led him to the secret room. They helped him push the dresser aside and he saw his surprise.
It is known as “The Treasure Room,” and it is a special space for their son to play.
After posting these pictures, the project went viral. Apparently, their son also enjoys reading books with his sister in the treasure room.
Their son will cherish this gift throughout his childhood. They really made a lot out of an unexpected discovery.
