11 Items You Have In The Pantry That Could Help A Sick Child

As a parent, we want to ensure that our children are as healthy as possible. Try as we might, however, there are going to be times when they get sick. When that happens, we often just sit by and try to provide comfort until they are able to get well again. Given the opportunity, many of us would do anything in order to have them feeling better instantly.

What you may not realise is that there are items in your home that could help a sick child, and they are hiding right under your nose. In fact, you only need to go as far as the pantry and you will likely find those items in abundance. You might even try stocking your pantry so that you can take advantage of these natural healing techniques.

1. When your child has a canker sore, put some milk on the spot to ease the pain. Adding dairy to their diet if they are old enough may help.

2. When a child is teething, freeze a spoon and have the child suck on it for relief.

3. You would also want to try a popsicle when they are teething. There are plenty of healthy popsicle choices out there.

4. Put some baking soda and water over top of a splinter. Cover it with a Band-Aid in in about an hour, the splinter should back out easily.

5. When your child has a stomach bug, put them on the BRAT diet. This diet is bananas, rice, applesauce and toast.

6. Freeze some Gatorade in an ice cube tray. It’s a good way to get their electrolytes up when they are dealing with the flu.

7. Mosquitoes seem to love children and you may not want to use too much of a commercial after-bite gel. Rub a banana peel on the spot and it will relieve the redness, itching and swelling.

8. Keep a bucket on hand at all times for your children to carry around when they are having an upset stomach. It might just save your furniture and carpet, if they have good aim.

9. Does your child have a sore throat? Give them a few mini marshmallows. It is both soothing and delicious.

10. When your young one has an ear ache, fill up a white sock with Epson salt and tie off the end. Heat it carefully in a frying pan on low and rest it against the child’s ear. It will relieve the pain temporarily.

11. You can sneak a little bit of raw garlic into a child’s meal if they have a runny nose. It really does help.
