Have You Seen This “Weed” Growing In Your Yard? Don’t Kill It. It’s GOOD For You!

When most of us see weeds growing outside, the first thing we do is reach for something to kill it or immediately pull it and throw it in the trash. The same may also be true of a weed known as purslane, but rather than being a useless weed, it has a number of interesting benefits.

Before you simply discard this weed as if it is trash, consider the health benefits of using it. Purslane is high in minerals and vitamins that can give you an overall health boost. It also contains iron and calcium in high amounts as well, which would be good for the bones.

Purslane can survive over 25 years, which also indicates that it can be good for the immune system.

Out of all green leafy vegetables, purslane contains the most vitamin A, which shows it has anticancer benefits. Since it contains large amounts of omega-3 fatty acids, it can prevent stroke and heart disease as well. Best of all, purslane is absolutely free of GMOs.

If you are fortunate enough to have purslane growing near your home, consider adding it to your daily diet. The leaves are delicious and have a crunchy, lemony taste. You can replace your daily dose of spinach with it and it can be included in many recipes.

Some people like to add it to sandwiches or salads. It provides the body with extra energy and strength and reduces the risk of developmental disorders in children, including ADHD and autism.
