Spring is in the air and along with it, many people are going to be starting their garden. Perhaps you are one of those individuals, and it doesn’t matter if you are planting a garden for the very first time or if you’re an old pro at it, it is likely that you are going to need some tools and supplies to get started.
In my come as a shock to you how much supplies cost, and the cost seems to go up year after year. Rather than spending an arm and a leg for a hobby that should actually be saving you money, you can look to your kitchen and use some of the items there to garden on a budget. Here are some of our favorite options.
Muffin Tins – Use a muffin tin to market grid line in your soil and space your plants.
Wine Bottle Edge – Save your seedlings and make a decorative path with old wine bottles
Spoon Markers – Don’t throw away the old silverware, flatten it with a hammer.
After the spoons are flattened, paint them pretty to mark the herbs in your garden.
You can also use plastic as an economical and easy way to mark the garden.
Crack Open a Soda – Take the top off of an empty soda can using a can opener
Spray paint the cans to cover the old logos
Use them as planters for sprouts on your windowsill
Water Your Garden – Another trick for empty wine bottles is to use them to water the garden automatically. Fill the bottle with water, turn it over quickly and insert it in the soil. This is perfect for going on vacation.
And The Kitchen Sink – If you have an old sink, it can make an awesome planter.
Critter Patrol – Keep critters away by using plastic forks in with your veggie plants.
Wind chime – Hang some old spoons on a steel strainer for this awesome wind chime
After you make the wind chime, flip it over and fill the strainer with flowers.
Banana Peels – Don’t throw away your banana peels, they can add a lot of vitamins to the soil.
Coffee grounds – Coffee grounds can also add a lot to your garden and they also help keep the soil moist.
Egg Shells – These add calcium to your garden. Dry them out, grind them up and add them to the soil
