Most of us don’t really give toilet paper rolls much thought, other than giving them a lot of thought if they tend to run out when we need them most. In reality, toilet paper rolls can be made into a number of fantastic crafts and after seeing this one, you will want to start hoarding the rolls right away.
Cindy, from Made2Smile, was the originator of this wall art project and she admitted that it took her quite some time to save up enough toilet paper rolls to make it. When she had enough, however, she turned it into something completely unexpected and the beautiful results speak for themselves.
After collecting enough toilet paper rolls and ensuring that there was no scrap paper attached, she cut them into strips 1/2 inch wide. She also gave the rolls a little bit of a squeeze so that the strips were shaped more like a leaf than circular.
Using four of the “leaves”, Cindy made them into a circle and glue them where they were touching.
This made a wheel shape!
She continued the process until she had about 40 wheels in total.
A 10 inch circular mirror was used to form the centerpiece for the craft. She found the mirror at a fabric store. After placing the mirror on a flat surface, she began to glue the wheels in a circular shape around the edge of the mirror.
She then continued to the second row of wheels, making sure that each circle rested between 2 of the interior circles. She glued the second row in place.
The third row repeats the process done in the second row, but the wheels are a little bit further apart.
A new pattern was created for outside the third row. It began by using two strips of the roll and they were glued side-by-side.
She then glued two additional pieces tip to tip.
Finally, she attached the four pieces together and rested it in the space between the outer row of wheels.
When you look at it from above, it truly looks awesome!
She took the entire piece outside and spray painted it black.
After hanging the mirror on the wall, it is difficult to believe that the entire process started with accumulating some old toilet paper rolls!
