Turn an Ordinary Table into the Ultimate Lego Play Area

When it comes to toys, you can’t really discuss the subject without discussing Legos. They have been one of the most popular toys since their inception in 1949 and it is not only children that appreciate them, it is adults as well. The interlocking blocks are awesome and they come in all different types of sizes, shapes and colors.

It can be a lot of fun to build things with Legos but it is also frustrating to keep up after them. Many children tend to leave them laying around, which is not only irritating, it can be quite painful when you step on them in your bare feet. Instead of being frustrated over your child’s love of Legos, you can create this DIY project.

When you see what is possible from an ordinary table purchased from IKEA, you’ll recognize that the sky is truly the limit.

Gather your materials:
IKEA Ingo dining table
IKEA Trofast buckets (medium size)
Jigsaw
Drill with spade bit
Sandpaper
Spray paint
Clear sealant

Put together the IKEA table

1

You can incorporate multiple buckets into the table. For this project, 2 buckets were used side-by-side horizontally. Markout the placement of the buckets on the table.

2

Create a plan with the layout and dimensions

3

Cut out the rectangular shapes from the tabletop

4

Start by making the hole inside of the area you will cut out

5

You can then use a portable jigsaw to cut out the rectangles

6

This is what the table looks like with the rectangles cut out. Sand the edges where you made the cuts to keep them smooth.

7

You can change the finish with some spray paint. Be sure to get creative. Apply a child friendly sealant to lock in the color and protect the finish.

8

Now put the bins in the holes and then store the Lego pieces in them.

9

This is perfect for playing with Legos without getting them all over the house.

10

To finish off this awesome Lego play area, buy some gray base plates and glue them to the table.

11

You can use superglue to attach the base plates

12

Now they are securely attached to the tabletop

13

Your child will love this Lego station. Imagine what will be created, right here on this tabletop.
