How to Paint Kitchen Cabinets, No Sanding or Priming Needed

Many of us would like to redo our kitchen but we don’t necessarily want all of the hassle and expense typically involved with doing so. Perhaps you’re looking for a way to simply upgrade the look, and painting the cabinets is an awesome way to do so.

Most people tend to avoid it, however, feeling as if it is far too much work but nothing could be further from the truth. Adding some color to your kitchen by painting the kitchen cabinets is an excellent way to upgrade it without spending an arm and a leg.

As you will see in this project, it doesn’t have to be difficult because you can paint the kitchen cabinets without going through all of the necessary prep work. As the designer who did this project stated, it is “how to paint your kitchen cabinets without losing your mind.”

1

For this project, a product known as “Milk Paint” was used. It is manufactured by General Finishes and it allows you to add color to your kitchen cabinets with a simple stroke of a brush. No need for unnecessary prep work, such as sanding or priming. The paint will dry quickly and provide the coverage you need without any brushstrokes.

2

The hardware was removed from the cabinets and the doors were taken outside for cleaning. That is all the preparation necessary before using Milk Paint.

3

It was easier to work in sections, painting in small batches and then putting a topcoat on to seal the paint in place. For this large kitchen, 2 weekends were used and a few weeknights were thrown in for good measure.

It took some time but looking at the pictures easily shows that the end result was well worth it. The paint has held up to regular use for over two years without a problem.

There is no reason to “lose your mind” when it comes time to painting your cabinets. Just use the right product and you would be amazed with how easy it works for you.
